Mid-Century Kitchen & Ensuite Renovation, Material Selections & Custom Details

The Wildwood Project was a mid-century inspired kitchen and ensuite renovation nestled in the coulees, with views of the University of Lethbridge and the trainbridge beyond. Wall to Wall Design paid homage to the home’s unique architecture through the use of geometric shapes and warm wood tones, honouring the era while designing for the way the space is lived in today.

In the kitchen, we removed the wall between the dining and kitchen to highlight the ceiling’s bulkhead detail, keeping the island in place so it aligned perfectly above. A custom hood echoes those angular lines, while curved details on the island, inspired by the existing pendants, add a softer counterpoint. The peninsula stayed drywalled rather than wood-clad, keeping the dining room bright and creating a seamless transition from the wall above, finished with a custom shadow bead that matches the existing pony walls and carries onto the island, showcased by a countertop with no overhang. We also relocated the fridge for better flow and an easier path between the sink and stove.

In the ensuite, removing the tower cabinet made way for a larger, more functional vanity while allowing more natural light to reach the space. Storage returned in the form of a custom medicine cabinet, elevated with a designer wall sconce and echoed by a matching sconce on the adjacent wall. Removing the shower bulkhead opened the room further, while a neutral closet and reeded tile, featured only on the back wall, add height and visual interest without overwhelming the space.
